Following his much-hyped retirement match at Saturday Night’s Main Event earlier this month, Bill Goldberg has not hidden his displeasure with his pro wrestling swan song. He wishes there was a bigger build to his main event match with Gunther. And he was unhappy that his goodbye speech was cut off by NBC.
It has created speculation that he could have one more final match. That won’t happen in WWE, but it could occur in AEW. Especially after former world champ MJF made it clear on an episode of Busted Open Radio this week that he is more than willing to “embarrass” him in an All Elite Wrestling ring.
If Goldberg were to sign with AEW to compete in one more match, here are five perfect opponents for the WWE Hall of Famer.
MJF

MJF would be a great foil for Goldberg. It is a fascinating clash of generations, but the elite AEW star would do a fantastic job of selling the match. Building interest to a point where even devoted AEW fans will be dying to see the multi-time WWE and WCW champion spear him out of his boots.
Jon Moxley

If Goldberg wants a top name to face who better fits his style, then Jon Moxley is another strong option. The now-former AEW champ has a slow and methodical style that would work for the 58-year-old legend. The build to the bout would be intriguing, and it is a dream match of two of the biggest stars from their respective generations.
Samoa Joe

A short, hard-hitting match would best suit Goldberg. That is why a clash with someone like Samoa Joe makes sense. The former AEW champ is a great mat technician who could carry the greybeard to a solid match while making him look good. Furthermore, like a clash with Moxley, it is another fun dream match.
Bobby Lashley

Going toward the strategy of a clash between two methodical powerhouses, Goldberg vs. Bobby Lashley would be a marquee matchup. Both have links to MMA and could work that into their match. The visual of a face-off could easily help put butts in seats, and other members of the Hurt Syndicate taking spears on the road to the bout would be entertaining.
Powerhouse Hobbs

If Goldberg chose to give back to the business on the way out and desired to elevate a younger talent, Powerhouse Hobbs would benefit in a major way from a matchup with the wrestling legend. Just like Lashley and Joe, he can be one half of a clash between two very strong men, but he has far more to gain in a bout than the two long-time stars.
