It is a big match for the company, and this year’s AEW Blood And Guts had big significance for all ten talents involved.
For the 2023 edition of this brutal battle, fans saw the Blackpool Combat Club take on The Elite.
By the end of the match, we knew we were seeing the conclusion of the often heated feud between the two major factions.
The kicker? Some of the best parts of the conclusion to this feud were only enjoyed live by those in the building.
In a sign that no wrestling company is immune to sending things to commercial at the worst of times, fans watching at home missed a major speech by Kenny Omega.
Fightful had some follow up on this happening, reporting that Omega’s speech had a bigger meaning than what was conveyed to the cameras, but that we didn’t get to watch.
AEW Blood And Guts Had Big Significance
As also covered by Wrestling Inc, this sentiment was in part echoed by Claudio Castagnoli in a separate interview.
The line used to describe things? “We lost the battle but won the war”.
Digging into the backstage feelings after the match concluded, things came into more focus.
By all accounts, this match was something that many involved wanted for quite some time, so it had some deeper meaning for many.
That we got to see such a violent and crazy match, with such a nice display of respect at the end, was pretty cool.
I mean, it was also covered that it meant so much to Matt Jackson that he had all 10 participants sign a shoe as a memento.
That may be something he does on the regular, but to me, this just underscores the magnitude of the moment for one of the combatants.
Considering the chaos that The Elite have been involved with in the past year, this was a pretty special television moment…even if some of the best parts were lost.
