Dana White is going all out when it comes to putting on an event for the UFC at the Las Vegas Sphere.
UFC 306 is planned for September 14 at the brand-new venue in “Sin City.” During an interview with Pat McAfee, White explained why this is likely to be a one-off appearance for the MMA promotion.
“I’m already $17 million into this thing and we’re not anywhere near September yet,” White said (thanks to MMA Fighting for the quotes). “When I tell you guys I’m going to put on the greatest live sporting event in the history of combat sports, maybe in sports period.
“Nobody else is going to go in and spent (that much).”
The Sphere holds between 18,000 and 20,000 for an event. The 160,000 square-foot 16K resolution wrap-around screen is featured inside.
“You’re going to have people that are in the seats, in the suites and standing room only,” White said. “Then there will be bleachers and seats.”
Dana White: UFC 306 at Sphere Will Feature 10 Fights
While not wanting to announce any official bouts, White did confirm a 10-fight lineup.
“They’ll be a main, a co-main and obviously the card will be very Mexican heavy,” White said.
UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley taking on Merab Dvalishvili has been rumored. Another fight expected is flyweight champ Alexa Grasso meeting Valentina Shevchenko.
The event has been branded Noche UFC as a celebration of Mexican Independence Day.
