Stipe Miocic Has Direct Response To Fans Angry He Got Jon Jones Fight At UFC 309 Over Tom Aspinall

For UFC fans unhappy that Stipe Miocic is facing Jon Jones next instead of Tom Aspinall, the heavyweight GOAT says go complain to the promotion.

We are just a couple of weeks away from one of the most highly anticipated fights on the 2024 UFC schedule. On Nov. 16, inside the world-famous Madison Square Garden, history will be up for grabs. In the main event of UFC 309, the greatest fighter in MMA history, Jon Jones, will face the man many consider to be the best heavyweight of all time, Stipe Miocic.

A win for Jones will put a final stamp on his place as the best competitor to ever compete inside an MMA cage. However, if Miocic were to score an upset, it would certainly boost his case for consideration as the greatest fighter ever, in any weight class.

However, the booking has been controversial in the eyes of many fight fans. Jones has been allowed to hold on to the heavyweight title despite not fighting in the division in over a year and a half. While Miocic has fought just twice since 2020. Many fans believe current interim champ Tom Aspinall should be facing Jones.

On Monday, the former heavyweight king was asked about angry fans and he had a simple answer.

Stipe Miocic tells unhappy fans to complain to UFC about getting UFC 309 main event spot

“It’s the fight I wanted and the UFC gave it to me. They didn’t have to. They gave it to me,” Miocic told MMA Fighting.

Miocic enters the bout a few months removed from his 42nd birthday and with a whole bunch of ring rust. It is another reason why some UFC supporters believe he is being set up for a grand fall in New York next week. However, the Ohio native feels good about his chances at UFC 309 because of the team that has helped lead him to a 20-4 record in the sport.

“I think any fight I have I’m the toughest matchup for [my opponent],” said Miocic. “Not just because of me, it’s my coaches. We always come up with a great game plan. They improvise, they make everything right. As long as I go in with a game plan we’re good.”

It’s hard to knock Stipe Miocic’s confidence. He was a notable underdog in many of his biggest fights. But it did not stop him from scoring upset wins over UFC legends like Daniel Cormier, Stipe Miocic, and Fabricio Werdum.
