While many were impressed by Gervonta Davis in his recent knockout performance, Sean O’Malley was not.
The reigning UFC bantamweight champion explained his feelings after watching Davis defeat Frank Martin over the weekend.

“I’d knock Gervonta out,” said O’Malley while appearing on the Timbo Suga Show (thanks to MMAMania for the quotes). “That Frank Martin, the first few rounds looked like he was doing really well.
“I know Gervonta was probably experienced with strategy. But I was like, ‘Damn, Gervonta’s having a tough time getting to him.'”
O’Malley has made it known his desire to step into the boxing ring. He has had verbal battles with Ryan Garcia in the past along with “Tank.”
“An MMA fighter coming into boxing, like Conor (McGregor), they did a way heavier weight than Floyd (Mayweather) was used to,” O’Malley said.
Sean O’Malley Has Been On An Incredible Run
O’Malley earned his first title defense in March, besting Marlon Vera via decision. The win avenged a 2020 loss to Vera, which remains the lone defeat in his career.
Last year, “Suga” claimed the bantamweight belt when he finished Aljamain Sterling. Overall, he is 18-1 with a no-contest, which came vs. Pedro Munhoz in 2022.
Petr Yan, Thomas Almeida and Eddie Wineland are among those who have fallen to O’Malley.
Davis retained his WBA lightweight title with a victory over Martin. He also knocked out Garcia back in 2023 and also owns win over Mario Barrios, Leo Santa Cruz and Rolando Romero.
Along with the lightweight title, Davis has held the featherweight and super featherweight belts.
