Hate him or love him, Jon Jones will go down as the greatest UFC fighter of all time. Over a 16-year run in the promotion, he has beaten 11 men who held UFC gold or other major MMA titles. He has never been defeated inside the Octagon. And he is one of just three men to have won the company’s light heavyweight and heavyweight belts.
However, all good things come to an end and there is really nothing left for the 37-year-old to prove inside the cage. After dominantly beating Stipe Miocic in November, many have wondered what will be next for the heavyweight champion. Well, on Wednesday, Jones took to X to claim “In 24 hours I’ll be making a huge announcement!”

So what could the announcement be? We offer up four options and a prediction for what Jon Jones will reveal on Thursday.
Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall Fight Official

UFC fans want a unification fight between Jones and interim champ Tom Aspinall. Even UFC boss Dana White wants it and claims it could be the biggest in UFC history. It is the fight that needs to happen but with “Bones” not being sold on the idea, negotiations have been ongoing for months. It is highly likely the company offered a fight purse Jones could not refuse and the fight date will be announced.

Jon Jones vs. Alex Pereira Official For Later This Year

Jones has made it clear he wants to fight light heavyweight king Alex Pereira. Suggesting it is a more meaningful matchup for his legacy than against Aspinall. “Poatan” is set to defend his title in March against Magomed Ankalaev. Jones may reveal a fight between the two is official for the summer and that he is relinquishing the heavyweight strap.

Jon Jones Is Retiring

One very real route Jones goes is retirement. He has flirted with the idea in recent years and claimed after his November win that if he does not get the Pereira fight he would retire. With the Brazilian’s next bout booked, it wouldn’t be surprising if Jon Jones chose to go out on top and retires after his destructive victory over Stipe Miocic.
Jon Jones Has Landed A Film Role

A very disappointing route Jones could go with his announcement is that he has no fight news whatsoever. And instead, he will reveal a major movie role he has landed and will start filming soon. While this is unlikely, “Bones” trolling fans with the underwhelming news can’t be ruled out.
