Ahead of Jon Jones’ return Saturday at UFC 309, his boss Dana White revealed his plans for what will be “Bones'” final two bouts if he leaves Madison Square Garden victorious.
This Saturday’s UFC 309 card was one of the most highly anticipated of 2024. After over a year of waiting, the GOAT of MMA, Jon Jones, stepped back into the Octagon one more time. Waiting for him in his second heavyweight fight will be the man considered the best in division history, Stipe Miocic.

“Bones” has openly speculated about his career being close to ending. And his fight on Saturday very well could be his last. However, over the last few weeks, he has opened the door to another bout. But not against interim heavyweight champ Tom Aspinall — as many fans want. But instead for a clash with light heavyweight kind Alex Pereira.
Jones’ disinterest in facing Aspinall has been controversial in MMA circles. However, on Friday the lineal heavyweight champion’s boss detailed what he has planned for Jones if he does fight again. And next up would be the bout most fans want.
Dana White confirms he wants to see Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall next
“If [Jones] beats Tom Aspinall, then yes, I would do the Alex Pereira fight,” White told media on Friday.
For a promoter who often gives his top stars whatever they want, it is refreshing that White prefers to make the bout fans want. But it is only fair. Aspinall is the future of the division. And it can only move forward if an undisputed champion is determined and that means Jones vs. Aspinall must happen.
The comment is also important because it draws a line in the sand. If Jon Jones really wants the bout with “Poatan” next then he can also relinquish the belt and let the division move on without him. It is another win-win scenario for the company.
Following Jones’ dominant victory at UFC 309, White was again asked if Jones vs. Aspinall is what he wants next, and emphatically confirmed it is. And that it would be the “biggest heavyweight fight in UFC history by a long shot” if it happened.
