The main event for UFC Vegas 80 this October will see two fighters relatively new to the headline act. Bobby Green and Grant Dawson will square off from the Apex in Las Vegas.
UFC Vegas 80 To Feature Bobby Green Vs. Grant Dawson
With the number of events they hold, it is becoming more and more routine for fighters new to the main event scene to earn headline fights.
That is the case with UFC Vegas 80 later this year, as reports have indicated that Bobby Green and Grant Dawson will main event the card.
The action takes place October 7 from the Apex in Las Vegas, airing live on ESPN+.
Several other fights have already been announced for the night including Drew Dober vs. Ricky Glenn, Joe Pyfer vs. Abdul Razak Alhassan and Ion Cutelaba vs. Philipe Lins.
UFC Vegas 80: Bobby Green Looking For Momentum
This past July, Green earned one of his biggest wins to date, submitting former interim champion Tony Ferguson. The victory marked his first win since 2022 when he topped Nasrat Haqparast, snapping a three-fight winless streak.
Earlier this year, he had a no-contest with Jared Gordon after the two clashed heads.
Green is 30-14-1 with the no-contest overall, including 19 finishes. He stopped former title contender Al Iaquinta back in 2021 and also holds wins over Clay Guida and Erik Koch.
At the moment, Green stands atop the UFC’s lightweight division for most significant strikes landed at 1,637 and most total strikes landed at 1,863 in his career.
UFC Vegas 80: Grant Dawson Seeks Biggest Name Yet
Dawson is unbeaten since 2016, a run that includes nine fights in the UFC and another on Dana White’s Contender Series. He is 8-0-1 over that span, besting Damir Ismagulov this past July.
He also holds wins over Gordon, Mark Madsen, Leonardo Santos and Darrick Minner, as 13 of those victories have come by way of submission with four more by knockout.
Twice in his career Dawson has earned a fight-night bonus, picking up “Performance of the Night” honors for his wins over Michael Trizano and Santos.
The Green-Dawson bout has been confirmed by MMA Fighting.
