Welcome to the latest UFC results, as the Octagon set up shop from Abu Dhabi once again for UFC 294. In the main event was a battle of champions squaring off with Islam Makhachev putting his lightweight title on the line against reigning featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. Also, Khamzat Chimaev took on Kamaru Usman in a middleweight title-eliminator. Now, let us get to all of the latest UFC results.
UFC Results: Islam Makhachev Stuns Alexander Volkanovski, Defends Title
Islam Makhachev made a statement Saturday in the main event of UFC 294.
The reigning lightweight champion knocked out featherweight titleholder Alexander Volkanovski in the rematch from Abu Dhabi. The main card aired live on ESPN+ pay-per-view.
After scoring a previous victory over Volkanovski, Makhachev showed why he is one of the most dangerous fighters on the planet today. Just minutes into the first round, he caught Volkanovski with a head-kick, earning another win and successful title defense.
Makhachev was scheduled to defend vs. former champion Charles Oliveira, but Oliveira pulled out with an injury. Volkanovski stepped in on short notice and took the fight.
In the co-main event, Khamzat Chimaev earned the next middleweight title shot by besting former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman via majority decision. Usman replaced Paulo Costa, taking the bout on short notice like Volkanovski.
UFC Results: No-Contest Ends Light Heavyweight Affair
Magomed Ankalaev and Johnny Walker saw their main card bout come to an end in the first round after an illegal knee. The bout was declared a no-contest between the two light heavyweight contenders.
Ikram Aliskerov finished off Warlley Alves and Said Nurmagomedov downed Muin Gafurov with both fights ending in the opening round. Aliskerov landed with a knee and followed with strikes while Nurmagomedov locked in a guillotine choke.
UFC Results: Big Submission Highlights The Prelims
In the prelim main event, Muhammad Mokaev locked up an arm-triangle choke to best Tim Elliott in a flyweight affair.
Trevor Peek downed Mohammad Yahya via decision and a bantamweight battle between Javid Basharat and Victor Henry was declared a no-contest due to an illegal strike.
Sedriques Dumas topped Abu Azaitar, Mike Breeden finished Anshul Jubil, Muhammad Naimov downed Nathaniel Wood, Victoria Dudakova earned a decision over Jinh Yu Frey and Shara Magomedov scored a win vs. Bruno Silva.
UFC Results: Four Performance Bonuses Handed Out
Makhachev, Aliskerov, Nurmagomedov and Mokaev were all awarded “Performance of the Night” bonuses. Each fighter picked up an additional $50,000 for their efforts.
This is the 18th event to be held in Abu Dhabi by the UFC, with this one going down from the Etihad Arena.
