Welcome to the latest UFC results, as the Octagon set up shop in Australia for UFC 293. In the main event, Israel Adesanya put his middleweight title on the line vs. Sean Strickland. This marked the sixth visit to Sydney for the promotion and first since 2017. Now, let us get to all the UFC results from the Qudos Bank Arena.
UFC Results: Sean Strickland The Newest Middleweight Champion
To the surprise of just about everyone outside of his team and family, Sean Strickland knocked off Israel Adesanya at UFC 293 to become the middleweight champion.
The event aired live on ESPN+ pay-per-view from the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
Strickland, a decisive underdog coming in, rocked Adesanya early and nearly finished the fight. From there, he defended and attacked at will, picking the two-time champion apart.
UFC Results: Alexander Volkov With Ezekial Choke
Heavyweight contender Alexander Volkov spoiled Tai Tuivasa’s party, locking in an ezekial choke in the co-main event.
Volkov earned his third straight win and third consecutive finish with the second round submission. He is now 37-10 overall with 28 stoppage wins to his credit. The loss for Tuivasa, who was competing in his hometown, was the third straight of its kind.
Flyweight Manel Kape continued his winning ways, scoring a decision over Felipe dos Santos. Kape has now reeled off four consecutive wins since a pair of 2021 decision defeats, sitting at 19-6 overall.
The main card started with a bang as both Tyson Pedro and Justin Tafa picked up first round finishes.
Pedro stopped Anton Turkalj in a light heavyweight contest in 2:12 while Tafa did the same at heavyweight to Austen Lane in just 82 seconds.
UFC Results: Prelims Feature Several Finishes
Four of the seven prelim fights ended early, including the main event between Carlos Ulberg and Jung Da-un.
Late in the third round, Ulberg locked in a rear-naked choke for the win in their light heavyweight affair. The New Zealand native moved to 9-1 overall and has won five consecutive with the last four coming by finish.
Chepe Mariscal earned a second round TKO victory after his featherweight fight with Jack Jenkins was stopped due to an arm injury. Jamie Mullarkey and Nasrat Haqparast were each decision winners on ESPN.
The ESPN+ early prelims saw Charlie Radtke top Mike Mathetha while both Gabriel Miranda and Kevin Jousset won by first round submission.
Up Next
A championship fight will headline UFC Fight Night from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas as Alexa Grasso puts her flyweight title on the line vs. former champion Valentina Shevchenko. Back in March, Grasso scored a submission victory for the belt over Shevchenko in a stunning upset.
