Dustin Poirier wants to fight for the UFC’s lightweight title next, and if that happens, it’s a good thing Khabib Nurmagomedov isn’t expected to compete for several months.
Poirier took out Justin Gaethje in the fourth round of their UFC on FOX 29 headliner last night, in what was a brutal, thrilling war. After the battle, Poirier spoke with the UFC’s Megan Olivi, and while doing so, he reported that he may have broken his hand, and that his knee feels unstable. Poirier’s left eye also took some damage in the fight, as a result of two eye pokes.

Nurmagomedov, who won the vacant title at UFC 223 earlier this month by defeating Al Iaquinta, isn’t expected to fight again until August or September at the earliest.
