At 41 years old, Holly Holm continues to show that age is just a number. But, can the former champion do it once more when she faces Mayra Bueno Silva this Saturday night at UFC on ESPN 49 from Las Vegas and the Apex?
UFC On ESPN 49: Holly Holm Looks To Remain A Player
Coming off a decision win over Yana Santos, former champion Holly Holm looks to secure his standing in the bantamweight division when she faces Mayra Bueno Silva at UFC on ESPN 49.
The event airs live on ESPN and streams on ESPN+ from the Apex in Las Vegas. Along with Holm vs. Silva, Albert Duraev battles Park Jun-yong and Walt Harris tangles with Josh Parisian.
For Holm, this is another opportunity to show why she is one of the greatest female fighters in combat sports history. Despite turning 40 years old last year, she is 3-1 over her last four fights with wins vs. Irene Aldana, Raquel Pennington and Megan Anderson.
Injuries and other issues have limited her, including an entire year spent away from active fighting. But it is obvious Holm knows what she needs and how to handle herself and get ready.
She controlled the action vs. Santos in March, improving to 15-6 in her career. She did the same over five rounds with Aldana in 2020 with her losses during this current run coming to Ketlen Vieira via split decision and Amanda Nunes back in 2019.
Who Is Mayra Bueno Silva?
Holm’s opponent, Silva, comes in red-hot, having won three in a row. In her last fight, she scored a “Performance of the Night” bonus with a kneebar submission vs. Lina Lansberg.
Overall, Silva sports a 10-2-1 record that includes a 5-2-1 run in the UFC with another win coming on Dana White’s Contender Series. She is very gifted on the ground, earning back-to-back submissions and holding seven total in her career.
For both Holm and Silva, this is a big-time opportunity. Fighting in the main event live on ESPN brings with it plenty of attention and headlines, especially for the winner of the fight.
