This is something of a first, as UFC fighter Neil Magny says trash-talk was used in his recent custody battle.

Magny was referencing a verbal altercation between himself and Ian Machado Garry ahead of UFC 292 last year.

During the war of words, Magny referenced being a father and handing out whoopings. His estranged wife proceeded to bring that up during court proceedings over custody of the child.

“I hope he never had to go through it, or never had been through it,” Magny said during an appearance on The MMA Hour (thanks to MMA Fighting for the quotes). “Going through a separation when you have children involved is one of the most difficult things I’ve ever had to face. That tops every type of experience I’ve had thus far.

“That kind of experience is something I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. It’s truly a difficult situation. It’s a very uneasy feeling.”

He admitted it was a “very uneasy feeling” that it even came up with Garry.

“This is beyond fighting,” Magny said. “This is my actual life. Forget legacy, forget wins, forget record, forget all that stuff. My sole purpose on Earth is to be the best father as possible to my kids and the things said in that press conference being quoted….that was just an uneasy feeling.

“I didn’t like it at all. It took a huge toll on me.”

Magny would drop a decision to Garry but rebounded in January when he finished Mike Malott at UFC 297. Overall, he is 29-11 in his career and 8-4 over his last 12.
