Neil Magny was taken out by Santiago Ponzinibbio at UFC Argentina on Saturday night, and following the bout, the rugged vet was quick to praise the power and hand-speed of “Gente Boa”.
Magny faced the surging welterweight in the headliner of the card and was put down in the fourth round by a booming right hand. After the defeat, Magny had this to say about Ponzinibbio and the Argentinean fighter’s abilities (quote via MMA Junkie):
“I think it’s pretty obvious (I’m) beat up,” Magny said. “Beat up and disappointed. Obviously, it wasn’t my night. … His power was impressive. Whether it was a jab or a cross or a hook, I was still looking up wondering where that punch came from. He has speed in his hands, power in his hands, and precision with his punches.”
There you have it, and it should be noted here that Magny has only been stopped with strikes one other time, and that was in 2016 by Lorenz Larkin. So, these comments from Magny about Ponzinibbio’s power should resonate.
With the loss last night, Magny’s overall record now stands at 21-7, and he is 3-2 in his last 5 outings.
