The UFC is heading to St. Petersburg, Russia for the first time in the promotion’s history, and it will enlist the services of Russian heavyweight, Alexander Volkov, in the main event.
The UFC has announced that Volkov will battle Alistair Overeem in the main event of the April 20th card, which will be hosted by the city’s Yubileyny Sports Complex.
Volkov (30-7) will be looking to get back on track, as he’s coming off a late, KO loss to Derrick Lewis in October. The defeat snapped the 6’7 tall fighter’s six-fight winning streak.
Overeem (44-17, 1 no-contest), meanwhile, is coming off a quick stoppage win over Russia’s Sergei Pavlovich in November. Prior to that the Dutch star dropped back-to-back bouts to Curtis Blaydes and Francis Ngannou.
So, that’s a solid addition to the UFC’s upcoming schedule no?
