UFC 300 is shaping up to be one of the biggest events in promotion history. And UFC president Dana White announced one reason why on Thursday.
A battle of former champions will begin the night, as Deiveson Figueiredo and Cody Garbrandt square off. The fight takes place in the bantamweight division.
UFC 300 is set for April 13 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The headliner for the event has yet to be confirmed.
“Every fight on the card could be either the main event of a Fight Night or a pay-per-view,” White told the Las Vegas Review Journal. “We are opening the card, the first prelim of the night is Garbrandt vs. Figueiredo.
“What does that tell you?”
UFC 300 Opener To Feature Former Champs
Figueiredo previously held the UFC’s flyweight championship. He moved up to 135 pounds after dropping the belt, besting Rob Fant in his debut at the new weight.
Garbrandt previously held the bantamweight title and has long been a top contender in the division. Following a tough 1-5 run, he has since won his last two, including a December first round knockout at UFC 296.
