UFC 248: Gilbert Burns Takes Out Demian Maia, Calls Out Colby Covington

Gilbert Burns

Gilbert Burns continues to make noise in the UFC’s welterweight division, as the former lightweight quickly stopped the renowned Demian Maia today at UFC Brasilia.

Gilbert Burns

Round one

Burns fired several kicks in the early going. Maia planted a left hand and he took Burns down a moment later. Burns went for a kneebar and in the scramble, Burns got back to his feet. Maia took his back, however, along the fence. Maia swept Burns to the floor but when he went for the mount, the latter scrambled back to his feet. Moments later, Burns sent Maia to the deck with a huge left. Burns thought the fight should be done but when the ref didn’t jump in, he followed up with hammer fists from above and that was that. Big win for Burns.

After the bout, Burns called for a fight with former interim, welterweight champ, Colby Covington.
