Max Holloway wanted to join exclusive company when he challenged for the interim UFC lightweight title earlier this year.
But Dustin Poirier had other ideas.
Poirier downed the reigning UFC featherweight champion, earning the title and his upcoming Saturday unification match with reigning UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagoemdov at UFC 242. Related: UFC 242: What Will Be Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Legacy When All Is Said And Done?
“The Diamond” used his reach advantage, claiming his first title inside the Octagon in the process. The decision vs. Holloway was the fourth consecutive win for Poirier and pushed his unbeaten run to six in a row.
Poirier and Nurmagomedov headline the pay-per-view from Abu Dhabi.
