Leading up to last weekend’s UFC 229 event, plenty of people predicted it would be the biggest card in the promotion’s history, and it looks like that is indeed the case.
The October 6th card, which featured superstar Conor McGregor taking on new, lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov, is estimated to have sold just under 2.4 million pay-per-view buys. That’s according to a report from MMA Fighting’s Dave Meltzer. That figure could increase with late / additional purchases.
If these figures are accurate, that would make UFC 229 the top selling, PPV card by a very wide margin. The 2016 rematch between McGregor and Nate Diaz at UFC 202 held the previous record, of approximately 1.6 million buys.
Nurmagomedov defended the lightweight title at UFC 229, by submitting McGregor in the fourth round. The card took place in Las Vegas, Nevada.
