Scrap Report: Tyson-Paul Promo Begins, Jon Jones Ducks, and Legends Book Rematches

The latest edition of Ringside Intel’s Scrap Report is live! This time Jason Burgos and Ant Walker start by discussing the fast-approaching Mike Tyson and Jake Paul fight before moving on to Jon Jones and the return of legends.

As the official promotion for the Tyson/Paul begins, Burgos offers his experience of attending the first press conference in New York City before both hosts debate about how effective efforts to publicize the event are and what role Netflix will play in increasing viewership.

They also react to sharp decline in ticket prices and offer thoughts about whether holding the event at the 80,000-seat Cowboys Stadium. While both agree that filling Jerry’s World to capacity is highly unlikely, the configuration of the venue would ultimately determine expectations.

Jon Jones: Duck, Duck, GOAT?

With UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall booked to fight Curtis Blaydes and not Jon Jones, what does that do to the value of the “undisputed” title? Also is it possible that the greatest fighter of all time is actually ducking Aspinall?

While Walker is somewhat sympathetic to Jones’ desire to face Stipe Miocic before retirement and more critical of his stance on social media, Burgos believes Jones is actively avoiding the challenge the young Brit offers.

Speaking of GOATs…

Both Anderson Silva and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. are revisiting old foes in exhibition boxing matches. With “The Spider” set to complete a trilogy with arch-nemesis turned frenemy Chael Sonnen and “Money” Mayweather scheduled to rematch Victor Ortiz, Burgos and Walker talk about which one makes the most sense.

In a rare turn of events, both men agree that Silva-Sonnen 3 is the most sensible of the two and has a certain level of “class” that Mayweather-Ortiz 2 lacks.

Khabib Nurmagomedov is having money problems. Does this mean that he’ll make a return to the UFC? Burgos and Walker talk about whether he adds his name to the long list of fighters who returned solely for financial reasons. They also discuss the possible opponents if “The Eagle” does land back in the Octagon.
