If everything goes according to plan, it looks like the UFC’s summer schedule could feature middleweight champ Robert Whittaker in action.
Whittaker has been on the shelf after emergency surgery for a hernia, forced him out of UFC 234 last month. The Australian fighter had been booked to face Kelvin Gastelum at the event.
Well, more recently, the champ’s manager, Titus Day, informed ESPN’s Ariel Helwani that Whittaker has been cleared to resume full training. Whittaker is reportedly hoping to return to the Octagon in August.
On April 13th at UFC 236, Israel Adesanya is going to battle Kelvin Gastelum for an interim middleweight belt. The aforementioned report cites sources, who are reporting that if Adesanya wins, Whittaker will face the rising star in Australia this summer. If Gastelum is victorious, however, Whittaker will likely battle him in the U.S.
