Amidst all the speculation as to whether the UFC will book a rematch between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor, some have questioned whether the lightweight champ would even be interested in a do-over. Well, according to a new report, it looks like the answer’s no.
Recently Khabib’s uncle, Alex Nurmagomedov, spoke with Sport Express.Ru. Based off Google Translate, Nurmagomedov was quoted saying the following, while discussing the possibility of a rematch between Khabib and McGregor:
“He will not fight him for any money. Yes, I know that they are offering him a rematch. From the start, they offered him 15 million, if he agrees. But Khabib said no. Let Conor stand in line, let him fight with others. But Khabib wants to fight (Tony) Ferguson, and then finish his career.”
So, when you consider that Khabib’s argued in the past that Conor isn’t a legit, top lightweight and that there’s been rumors he’s considering retirement in the not too distant future, these comments shouldn’t be dismissed.
And really, from a meritocratic standpoint, Nurmagomedov vs. Ferguson is what should happen next.
Nurmagomedov faced McGregor earlier this month at UFC 229, and submitted the former champ in round four.
