Report: Chris Weidman Has a New Opponent Locked Down For UFC 230

Following the unfortunate news that Luke Rockhold’s been forced out of his November 3rd scrap with Chris Weidman, it’s being reported that the former middleweight champ has a new opponent.

On Friday, ESPN reported that Rockhold has dropped out of UFC 230, due to several different injuries. Rockhold and Weidman were supposed to scrap in the co-main event of the New York City card.

Well, since then, ESPN’s Brett Okamoto has confirmed with UFC President Dana White that “Jacare” Souza has agreed to face Weidman instead. Souza was booked to fight David Branch at UFC 230, so, now the latter will reportedly take on Jared Cannonier.

So, while a lot of people were likely excited to see Rockhold and Weidman battle once again, Souza – Weidman’s not a bad replacement right?

Rockhold stopped Weidman in the fourth round of their 2015 bout, and ended his reign as the 185 champ.
