Prospect Watch: Brush up on Kron Gracie Amidst UFC Rumors

Chances are more prospect observers and hardcore fans are still buzzing about the recent report that the UFC is looking at adding Kron Gracie to the roster. So, if you’re looking to brush up on the galaxy class jiu-jitsu competitor, or need to get up to speed on Gracie, read on.

If you don’t know, Gracie is the 30-year-old son of the legendary Rickson Gracie.  Accordingly, Kron is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and he’s also a black belt in Judo as well. In 2013, Kron won a gold medal at the ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship, which is one of the toughest grappling competitions on the planet. That was just one of many, many, accolades Gracie has received in jiu-jitsu.

In 2014, Gracie transitioned into MMA, and since then he’s gone 4-0. During that time, Kron has submitted veteran Hideo Tokoro, and in his last bout in December 2016, he submitted Tatsuya Kawajiri while competing for Rizin. When you consider that both of those fighters have over 100 bouts on their records combined, the fact Gracie defeated them in his third and fourth pro-fights, is ridiculously impressive.

As noted and shown in this vid, Kron’s confidence in his jiu-jitsu is so high that he jumped to guard against Kawajiri, despite the fact the latter’s known for having a dominating top game.

Well, recently ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reported that the UFC is hoping to sign Gracie to a contract, and have him fight at UFC 233 in Anaheim, January 26th. As this is being written, it’s not known if that will happen, but, if it does, Gracie will be one of the top prospects the UFC has signed in a while.
