PFL Playoffs: Countdown Is Now On To Elimination Round

Anthony Pettis

Following another incredible regular season, the PFL playoffs have arrived.

The first event is set for August 5 from the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The main card will air live on ESPN and ESPN+.

Light heavyweights and lightweights have been set for action. Rob Wilkinson meets Delan Monte and reigning champion Antonio Carlos Junior collides with Omari Akhmedov.

Those two bouts make up the 205-pound semifinals.

At lightweight, former UFC champion Anthony Pettis has a rematch with Stevie Ray. That winner will take on Olivier Aubin-Mercier or Alex Martinez in the finals.

Wilkinson and Pettis each earned the No. 1 seeds in their respective regular seasons. Akhmedov and Aubin-Mercier are the No. 2 seeds.

It has been an interesting run for Pettis in the PFL. “Showtime” suffered his third loss when Ray scored a submission with a body triangle at PFL 5 in June.

His lone win came over Myles Price by submission at PFL 3 back in May. During the 2021 season, Pettis fell to both Raush Manfio and Clay Collard.

But you can never count Pettis out. He holds wins over the likes of Donald Cerrone, Stephen Thompson, Benson Henderson and Jim Miller in recent years.

Ray also spent time in the UFC and earned his spot with the finish, scoring the fourth position. While in the UFC, Ray picked up wins over Michael Johnson, Jessin Ayari and Joe Lauzon.

Wilkinson went a perfect 2-0 during the regular season with two finishes. One came in the first round and the other in the second.

Monte went 1-1, while Carlos Junior dominated the 2021 season to secure the crown. He, like Akhmedov, also fought in the UFC for several years.
