Michael Chiesa admits he is no fan of Colby Covington.
But that does not mean Chiesa sides with the treatment Covington has received since his loss to Kamaru Usman at UFC 245 for the welterweight title.
Covington, a very out-spoken fighter who openly admits he is in favor of President Donald Trump, suffered a jaw injury in his loss to Usman.
Immediately following the bout, Twitter and other social media sites were quick to fill up with followers blasting Covington.
Chiesa believes that was not the correct approach to take, explaining his reasoning on Twitter.
“To all the people making fun of Colby with the #MAGAJAW, you’re acting just like him. Just like the person you’ve grown to hate. I dislike him just as much as you y’all but I won’t stoop to his level and you shouldn’t either,” he wrote. “The only people that reserve the right to say anything, is Masvidal or any of his former teammates/coaches he’s fucked over. Everyone outside of that should maintain posture and not celebrate or make fun of an athlete getting severely injured.”
We should never celebrate another fighter getting seriously injured in a fight, no matter who it is or what they have said.

Of course, many also went on the attack against Chiesa for his remarks.
“Saying I have an ‘off-base’ opinion because I don’t think it’s healthy for people to get their jolly’s off of someone getting severally injured, regardless of who they are or what they’ve done. If you want to stoop to his level because he went that low then I feel bad for you,” he replied. “I’m not standing up for Colby, I don’t care about his feelings FYI. But just because people we watch cross lines and say or do shitty things doesn’t mean we should too. Is that the standard we want to set in a sport that already has a pretty ruthless fan base?”
