Brazilian crocodile fetishist Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza has got main event duty this weekend, standing opposite Swede Jack Hermansson at UFC on ESPN+8. The whole thing is going down in Florida, which, when you take into account the venue, the opponent and the utter lack of pay-per-view broadcast, should tell you everything there is to know about Jacare’s title prospects.
Yup. He’s going to die of old age before ever fighting for the belt.
Which is sad, because the dude is really good. In his last outing, he took out former champ Chris Weidman…
He’s also beaten the likes of Gegard Mousasi and Vitor Belfort, plus any scrub put before him. But alas, he’s lost to Kelvin Gastelum, Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero, so unless Israel Adesanya and Whittaker are abducted by space aliens, Jacare just ain’t seeing that title shot.
Should you be excited about his fight against Hermansson? Nah. He was originally supposed to rematch with Romero, but Romero had some steroids to due or something, and couldn’t fit it in his schedule. But considering that cheater/woman beater Greg Hardy is in the co-main event, what else should you be excited about?
Anyway, Jacare. Saturday. Main event. Have fun with it.
