The GFL is putting some exciting fights together for the first few events of the league. That includes a rematch between former UFC champions and a battle between ex-champion and title challenger.
Up first is a meeting between former UFC middleweight champions Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman. The two will meet again at 185 pounds, as Weidman represents New York and Rockhold Los Angeles.

Weidman and Rockhold will be a rematch of their 2015 meeting over the UFC title. Rockhold scored a fourth-round TKO victory at UFC 194 to claim the belt.
Another key fight will see Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Yoel Romero square off. Rua, a former UFC champion at light heavyweight, fights for the Brazil team while Romero, a one-time contender to the middleweight strap, represents Miami.
The GFL also tabbed Uriah Hall, a former winner of The Ultimate Fighter, to take on former Bellator champion Douglas Lima, along with announcing former UFC heavyweight champions Fabricio Werdum and Frank Mir in a clash.
During their time at the top of the heavyweight division, Werdum and Mir were both regarded highly as submission fighters.
A global team-based MMA league that was launched this year, the GFL (Global Fight League) has signed several top free agents in the sport. Numerous ex-UFC champions and title challengers are joined on for the season-long battle.
