Georges St-Pierre To Be Enshrined In Canada’s Sports Hall Of Fame

Former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre will be honored later this year in his native country of Canada.

St-Pierre will become the first mixed martial arts athlete to receive the Order of Sport from Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.

The event takes place October 19 online and tickets are free to view. Along with GSP, Phyllis Bomberry, The Ferbey Four, Oren Lyons, Hiroshi Nakamura, Danielle Peers and the duo of Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir will be honored.

The UFC will serve as the presenting sponsor for the live stream.

“I’m honored to be inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame and receive the Order of Sport,” St-Pierre said. “Martial arts changed my life and I was fortunate to be able to represent Canada on the biggest stage in the world.

“I want to thank UFC and all my fans, as none of this would have been possible without them.”

The likes of Wayne Gretzky and Steve Nash are previous recipients of the Order of Sport, which goes out each year to signify the immense contributions made to Canada through sport.

During his UFC career, St-Pierre ruled the welterweight ranks. He scored wins over the likes of BJ Penn, Nick Diaz, Johny Hendricks, Carlos Condit and Jake Shields.

After returning to the sport, St-Pierre won the middleweight title with a victory over Michael Bisping, finishing his UFC run 20-2 overall while going 26-2 in his career.

GSP has been honored with several awards throughout his life including fighter of the year, Canadian athlete of the year and most outstanding fighter.

He will make his return to action at UFC Fight Pass Invitational 5 this December from Las Vegas. St-Pierre will compete in a submission grappling match, marking his first live action since defeating Bisping in 2017 for the title at UFC 217.
