Forget any of those reports or rumors of a possible Georges St-Pierre return to the UFC Octagon.
While St-Pierre is not completely calling it a career on his athletic endeavors, he has already promised himself no more fights inside the Octagon.
GSP, a former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion, was set to compete at the UFC Fight Pass Invitational in a grappling match opposite rival Nick Diaz. An injury, though, forced him out and to the sidelines to commentate the card.
“Absolutely not,” St-Pierre said when asked if he was part of the announcement planned by Dana White involving a 2024 super-fight (thanks to MMA Junkie for the quotes). “I promise you, I always told myself that I will not fight in the cage after the age of 40.
“I don’t say I will never compete in any combat sport event, but a fight in a cage professionally is a serious thing for my legacy; I will not do it.”
The 42-year-old St-Pierre claimed his last MMA win when he bested Michael Bisping for the middleweight title following a four-year hiatus from the sport.
“I’m extremely competitive, and sometimes I forget that I’m 42,” he said. “I don’t give myself enough rest and that’s why I think I partially tore my labrum, my subscap and my rotator cuff.
“But my shoulder is getting better and we’ll see how it goes.”
