
The main card is underway for tonight’s massive, Floyd Mayweather – Conor McGregor fight, which is taking place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The main event is expected to be the biggest fight in combat sports history, and Mayweather will be looking to break Rocky Marciano’s record of 49-0. Play-by-play for the all-star bout follows below.
Mayweather – McGregor
R1: As expected, McGregor came out as the aggressor, while Mayweather studied his opponent. McGregor was much busier of the two in the opening round, he landed a nice uppercut, and busted out a couple of taunts. Round to McGregor.
R2: McGregor switched up his stance a bit in round two, which appeared to surprise Mayweather. Both men started to load up on their punches a bit more. Mayweather was a bit busier in the round, but the frame was likely McGregor’s again.
R3: Early in, McGregor received a second warning for using a hammer fist. The UFC champ receives a warning for hitting Mayweather in the back of the head. Mayweather came with his right hand more often in the round, but McGregor appeared to land more often. Should be another round to the Irish star.
R4: McGregor charged out and fired off numerous punches at the undefeated boxer. Mayweather pressed forward, and while he ate some jabs, he landed a couple nice rights. Close round. Could go either way.
R5: McGregor continued to keep Mayweather at bay with his jab. Latter planted some right hands to the body of McGregor. Mayweather was the aggressor more often in round five, and McGregor appears to be fading a bit.
R6: Mayweather turned his back early on as McGregor fired off punches. Mayweather began to sit down on his punches and throw heavy shots. McGregor smiled and fired back some big punches of his own. Another close round, but McGregor should be ahead on the scorecards.
R7: Mayweather appeared to be the fresher of the two and landed a couple of big shots. McGregor is looking to tie up more often. Mayweather continued to press forward, in what was very likely a round for him.
R8: They clinched up early, but McGregor planted a couple of stinging lefts. Mayweather, however, continued to move forward. McGregor fired off some nice combos. Another close round. Still have McGregor ahead.
R9: A body shot from McGregor appeared to hurt Mayweather, but the ref saw it as a low blow. McGregor appeared to hurt Mayweather again, but the latter moved forward and planted some big punches of his own. Mayweather cracked McGregor with a hard left and McGregor initiated the clinch. The UFC champ was fading badly as the round ended.
R10: Mayweather tagged McGregor with several huge rights early in round ten, and as the UFC champ tried to cover up, the ref jumped in. That’s it. Wow. What a performance for McGregor.
