The UFC’s flyweight division is dangling by a thread, and exists solely because when TJ Dillashaw was sent to assassinate 125-pound champ Henry Cejudo murdered him instead. (And of course, Cejudo beating Marlon Moraes for the bantamweight belt factors in as well.)
So it’s pretty funny when one of the few remaining flyweights in the division chimes in with some optimism. Like Jussier Formiga! Who is fight Joe Benavidez at UFC on ESPN 3 tonight! I mean, sure, the UFC is still booking fights in the weight class. But when the boss fires everyone else in your department, and refused to hire replacements, how much longer do you think you’re going to have a job?
It baffles me. It baffles me that Formiga would say the following to MMAFighting:
“I think our division continues to move,” Formiga told MMA Fighting. “I’m fighting Benavidez now, Alexandre Pantoja has a fight booked now [against Deiveson Figueiredo]. I think we’re showing how good this division is, how tough it is. The top 10 is full of tough fighters. It’s impossible to imagine that this division will end.”
It’s impossible to imagine it? Bro.
Anyway, here’s a little preview the UFC did up for Formiga and Benavidez.
