Daniel Cormier Reports Things Are “Tense” With UFC, Over 205 Title

Increasingly it looks like we will not see Daniel Cormier defend the UFC’s light-heavyweight title again, and it looks like that’s leading to some issues between “DC” and the promotion.

Cormier has said that he wants to defend the 205 title one more time. But, since he’s expected to defend the heavyweight belt against Brock Lesnar next, and because Cormier intends to retire in March, 2019, many have questioned how that’s going to happen.

Well, more recently there’s been talk that the UFC’s looking at having former champ, Jon Jones, fight Alexander Gustafsson for the 205 belt. This would mean Cormier would be stripped of the title.

Recently the champ-champ was on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, and Cormier had this to say, about how this is impacting his relationship with the UFC (quote via MMA Junkie):

“Everybody knows how I feel about Jon Jones,” Cormier said. “It’s been tense, to say the least, with my interaction with the company if indeed they offer a title fight to him. I have to maintain a sense of professionalism.”

Cormier also reported that he’s dealing with a hand injury, and that he won’t be ready to fight until 2019. “DC” also, however, reportedly repeated his desire to face Jones again.
