Daniel Cormier and Alexander Gustafsson haven’t always been on the best of terms, but “DC” was quick to praise “The Mauler” on his career, following his announcement he’s done fighting.
Gustafsson took on Anthony Smith in the headliner of UFC Stockholm, and was submitted by his fellow contender in round four. After the fight, the Swedish star announced he’s walking away from the game at the age of 32.
Since then, the man who narrowly defeated Gustafsson by split decision in 2015, direct the comments below to his former rival.
Alex, you will forever be one of the biggest players in my journey. We’ve agreed, we have argued and bickered, but ultimately you made me better. You made the sport better. You are a warrior and will be truly missed! I understand the motivation changes and for you it is now your family. I say now you’re starting to really live the good life. Congrats on a great career my man! You’re a hammer! see you around
This is a very classy move by Cormier. Leading up to their 2015 bout and immediately after, the two were very respectful towards one another. But in more recent years, tensions rose between the two, as Gustafsson campaigned for a rematch.
