Some folks have questioned whether Conor McGregor might bust out some techniques that aren’t allowed in boxing, if he gets frustrated during his bout with Floyd Mayweather. But according to Dana White, if he does, then Mr. Mayweather could “destroy” the UFC champ’s life.
Since Mayweather is one of the greatest boxers of this generation, there’s been a lot of talk as to whether McGregor might just throw a knee or elbow etc, when they box on August 26th. McGregor has fueled this talk somewhat, via certain comments he’s made, and by noting boxing isn’t indicative of a “true fight”.
As a result, White has been fielding questions about what might happen, if McGregor did turn to techniques that aren’t allowed. Well, here is some of what the UFC President has had to say about the subject (quotes via Boxing Scene):
“He would be sued beyond belief if he does anything other than hit Floyd Mayweather with his hands to the head and body,” White said. “It would be a very bad – that can’t happen. That can’t happen. There’s actually language in the contract that that can’t happen.”
“If you look at Mayweather,” White added, “you can include this fight, his last three fights and the amount of money he’s brought in, right, when you go to court any lawsuit is always about damages…”
“Forget about the contract. He would just sue him. He would have a lawsuit against him that would be incredibly – I mean, it would destroy Conor’s life and Mayweather would win. Mayweather would win that lawsuit.”
Considering how much money’s on the line August 26th, and what could happen afterwards as White noted, it’s pretty hard to imagine McGregor doing anything crazy. Now, might McGregor do some taunting? In terms of a feint? Possibly. Or, if he loses the bout, will McGregor bring up the fact he could cruise through Mayweather in a MMA bout? It’s almost certain.
