As Ben Askren continues to tweet out warnings to the UFC’s welterweight division, it’s still not clear yet, when and who the undefeated welterweight will battle in his Octagon debut.
Since it was reported that Askren is headed to the UFC, in a deal that has sent Demetrious Johnson to ONE, “Funky” has had a couple of social media exchanges with other, UFC welterweights. White recently spoke with TMZ, and while he didn’t have any names, in terms of Askren’s first opponent, the UFC President said this (quotes via Bloody Elbow):
“I don’t know; we’re still working on it,” White said. “Obviously, he’s gonna come into the welterweight division. 170 pounds. He’s undefeated, he’s their champion. So we’re excited about it.”
“He’s definitely gonna fight somebody in the top five.”
When you consider Askren’s a former champ with both Bellator and ONE, and the fact he’s undefeated, this shouldn’t come as a surprise.
