Bellator women’s champion Cris Cyborg has a busy 2022 in store.
Cyborg is set to become a free agent from Bellator, and is planning to box Simone Silva at Fight Music Show 2. The event takes place September 25 in Brazil.
After that, Cyborg will return to the squared circle one more time before we reach 2023.
“I don’t know if there are many girls to box,” Cyborg said during a recent appearance on MMA Fighting’s show, Trocacao Franca. “I want to defend my belt. I want to continue fighting MMA, but I know it’s hard to do both sports. You have to focus on one or the other.
“If I have other opportunities (to box), absolutely. We’ll see. We don’t know about tomorrow. Let’s focus first on this one, and then we’ll see what the future holds, then I’ll know the answer to this question.”
Cyborg added that she plans to complete fighting in MMA in 2025, ending a two-decade career in the sport.
Previous reports stated plans for Cyborg to meet champion Katie Taylor in December. Taylor is 21-0 and a 2012 Olympic gold medalist, winning titles in the WBA, IBF, WBC and WBO.
“MAybe fight her in her area (Ireland),” Cyborg said. “They are crazy about the sport there, big fans. Who knows. Maybe in Brazil. We’ll see.”
