Fresh off his victory at UFC 291 over Tony Ferguson, Bobby Green was forced to respond to claims that he poked the eye of Ferguson on purpose during their bout. Green would claim a submission victory on the night.
Bobby Green: ‘If You Argue With A Crazy Man, You’re Probably Crazy’
Bobby Green is trying to take the high road in his war of words with Tony Ferguson.
This past weekend at UFC 291, Green scored a third round submission victory over Ferguson, earning a key win and holding his standing in the division.
However, instead of celebrating and enjoying the moment, he has had to respond to claims made by Ferguson that he poked his eye on purpose. Green was a guest on “The MMA Hour” recently to talk about it.
“If you argue with a crazy man, you’re probably crazy,” Green said (thanks to MMA Fighting for the quotes). “So I’m not going to argue with him. On one side of it is, he thinks I’m intentionally trying to do this for this fight, so I’m not gonna argue with him on that aspect. He’s crazy with that, but you can’t argue with crazy.
“The other part of the side of it, I feel like I’m sad and I’m sad because it’s a mark on my body of work. It means that he thinks that it would go differently.”
Bobby Green Points Out Other Issues In Fight
Green added that there was a head-butt and several illegal glove-holds conducted by Ferguson during their bout.
“I don’t need to cheat no guys,” he said. “My skills pay the bills. Trust me, I rely on skills, I don’t rely on athletics. I don’t rely on this and that – the skills in this.
“I feel bad because I did do the eye poke – I felt bad that it happened.”
The win was the first for the 36-year-old Green since a 2022 decision over Nasrat Haqparast. He snapped a three-fight winless skid, with the most recent being a no-contest after a clash of heads vs. Jared Gordon.
