Patricio “Pitbull” Freire has relayed before that he wants to throw hands with his Brazilian countryman, Jose Aldo, and clearly, the Bellator featherweight champ hasn’t changed his mind.
The rugged and entertaining fighter, who is booked to fight Emmanual Sanchez this Thursday at Bellator 209, recently had this to say about Aldo (quotes via MMA Junkie):
“He’s considered the greatest featherweight in history, and he defended his belt for many years,” Freire said. “He went many years without losing, as well. But, if you look at it, our numbers are very similar. So it would be an interesting one to figure out, (between) two Brazilians.
“I really admire his work. He’s a humble guy. We’ve had the opportunity to talk a few times. He wasn’t disrespectful. I had no reason to disrespect him, either, quite the contrary. But I think we’re both professionals, and I think the sport of MMA would benefit from this fight happening.”
Yup. There’s no question that fight has all the makings of being something special, and a lot of fans would certainly like to see it. But, when you consider that Aldo has said he plans to walk away from MMA after he’s done his current UFC deal, it’s hard to imagine this fight happening.
Bellator 209 will take place in Tel Aviv, Israel. “Pitbull” – Sanchez should also be an outstanding bout.
