Bellator 214: Henry Corrales Says Win Over Aaron Pico Resembled His “Actual Real Life”

Henry Corrales scored a thrilling, come-from-behind win over Aaron Pico last night, and the featherweight says the victory resembles his actual life.

Corrales faced the uber-prospect in the co-main event of Bellator 214, and early on, it looked like Pico was going to cruise to a win. Pico dropped Corrales with thumping punch moments into the fight, but the latter hung in there and started returning fire. Then, as Pico attempted to clinch up, Corrales knocked the rising star out with a vicious, right hook.

Well, after the jaw-dropping victory, Corrales had this to say about what transpired (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“This fight kind of closely resembled my actual real life,” Corrales said. “I put myself in some (expletive) situations and had to fight my way out of it. And that’s exactly what he did: He (expletive) dumped me and put me on my ass a little bit. I didn’t see it – he’s super quick. He just dropped me with a little flash hit. But I felt good. I got up, threw a couple shots, circled out, recomposed myself and got back after it. I was a little pissed.”

“I’m not even worried about that guy,” Corrales also told the media, when asked about Pico’s future. “He’s a stud. He’s got all the tools. He’s going to be fine for sure.”

It was an impressive upset, no doubt, but, it should be noted that many observers believed Corrales would be a stiff test for Pico, and clearly that proved to be the case. After all, the only fighters who have defeated him to date are Patricio Freire, Daniel Straus and Emmanuel Sanchez. Three of Bellator’s best 145’ers.

With the victory, Corrales’ record now stands at an awe-inspiring 17-3 and he’s won five in a row.

Bellator 214 was hosted by the Forum in Inglewood, California.
