One of the biggest boxing fights of the year is set for later this month, as Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. meet for the unified welterweight championship. The bout takes place July 29 live on Showtime pay-per-view in Las Vegas.
Terence Crawford On Facing Errol Spence: ‘This Fight Means Everything’
Undefeated WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford has the opportunity of a lifetime this month when he faces WBC, WBA and IBF champion Errol Spence Jr.
The two will meet live on Showtime pay-per-view from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for the unified welterweight title.
“This fight means everything. This puts the cherry on top of my career,” Crawford said during a special media event. “I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time and I can’t wait to get it on.
“We’re here in Las Vegas early to get used to the atmosphere and the heat. Come fight night, we’re gonna be 110% prepared. We’re adjusting well.
“The welterweight division has had a lot of great fights in the past and this will be another one next Saturday. There’s a bright future for the division as well with a lot of great talent coming up. It’s still a hotbed for the sport.”
Terence Crawford Seeking 40th Career Win
Crawford ran his career record to 39-0 this past December with a sixth round knockout of David Avanesyan in his home state of Nebraska. He has now finished each of his last 10 opponents since a decision over Viktor Postol in 2016.
“I’m just here to win the fight. We’re both prizefighters and I don’t worry about any plans he’s making for after this fight,” he said. “I don’t think about a knockout, I just think about getting the victory and that’s what I’m gonna do next Saturday.
“I think I could beat anybody at any sport. That’s just my nature. I play to win. If I’m gonna challenge you, I’m coming to win and I believe that wholeheartedly. That could be anybody. Even if I’m playing Michael Jordan in one-on-one.”
The four-fight pay-per-view telecast begins at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT and will see Crawford look to become the first male boxer to become undisputed in two weight classes.
The winner between Spence and Crawford will hold the distinction as the first undisputed welterweight champion of the four-belt era and likely emerge as the top pound-for-pound fighter in the sport.
