Who will David Benavidez next fight be against?

The reigning WBC interim light heavyweight champion will take on David Morrell, he announced on social media. Morrell won the WBA light heavyweight title in August, and both belts are expected to be on the line.

Benavidez and Morrell will square off in one of the biggest fights of 2025 in the world of boxing. Benavidez, who comes in with a perfect 29-0 record highlighted by 24 career knockouts, scored a decision over Oleksandr Gvozdyk last June.

With that win, Benavidez picked up the vacant WBC interim light heavyweight title. He has also held the WBC interim super middleweight and regular WBC super middleweight championships.

Morrell, meanwhile, also won a vacant title in his last appearance. Back in August, he scored a decision over Radivoje Kalajdzic to net himself the WBA (regular) light heavyweight crown. Prior to that, he retained the WBA (regular) super middleweight belt for a sixth time in late 2023 with a finish of Sena Agbeko.

Like Benavidez, Morrell is unbeaten in his career, winning all 11 of his fights. Of those, nine have been early victories.

Early knockout power: In two of his first bouts as a pro, Benavidez displayed his incredible knockout power. Competing on the undercard of Victor Ortiz vs. Andre Berto II, he floored Phillip Jackson Benson in the second round. On the Keith Thurman vs. Shawn Porter undercard, Benavidez dropped Francy Ntetu in a meeting of unbeaten fighters in the seventh. Can he do the same to Gvozdyk on Saturday night?
