Boxing fans will have to wait just a few more months for Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk.

After a cut forced Fury out of the title fight, officials have rescheduled the two for May 18.

Turki Alalshikh, chairman of the kingdom’s general entertainment authority, made the announcement on The MMA Hour (thanks to ESPN for the quotes). Fury was alongside with Usyk joining later.

“I arranged to spar 12 rounds with four different guys,” Fury said. “In Round 5, I got an elbow in the eye – a split eye – and obviously I’ve been to the hospital and have the 11 stitches.

“They have the medical reports, they have everything. Have a look at the eye. Nothing much anybody can do about getting a cut. I’ve never had one before. First time for everything.”

The bout will still take place in Saudi Arabia. It was also confirmed that if either fighter withdraws from the new date, they will forfeit $10 million from his purse and the other will remain on the card.

Fury (34-0-1) and Usky (21-0) were set to meet in two weeks in one of the biggest heavyweight boxing fights in year. They were also scheduled once before for last December.

A two-way rematch clause is in the fight contract ensuring two consecutive fights between the pair over the heavyweight titles.
