WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis was expected to walk over and around Lamont Roach Jr. Saturday night. That did not happen inside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Instead, Davis and Roach ended in a controversial draw, with Davis retaining his belt and his unbeaten record. Two judges scored the fight 114-114 with a third giving it to “Tank” by a score of 115-113.

Davis overcame his typical slow start, dominating Roach in the middle stages of the fight. However, in the ninth, Davis would take a knee while claiming to have something in his eye. No knockdown was given, which would ultimately lead to the draw.
A rematch is likely to be worked up between the two. Roach threw over 120 more punches than Davis, but nine of the 12 rounds were separated by three-or-less punches.
