David Benavidez dominated his way to another championship Saturday night. Benavidez bested David Morrell in the main event live from Las Vegas and the T-Mobile Arena.

With the win, Benavidez retained his interim WBC light heavyweight championship and won Morrell’s WBA “regular” title in the process. All three judges scored the fight for Benavidez by totals of 115-111, 115-111 and 118-108.

“This is ‘Monster’s’ World,” Benavidez said (thanks to ESPN for the quotes). “You know what it is, but a big shout to Morrell. He took a tough test. I knew he was going to be a tough fighter. That’s why I prepared so hard for this. I’m just happy the people were able to get a good show.”

Benavidez, who moved to 30-0, landed 224 of his total strikes including 40.5 percent overall. His power shots included 181 of 378 being landed on Morrell, who lost for the first time in 12 pro fights.

As for what is next, Benavidez lines up to meet the winner between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol for the undisputed light heavyweight title. Those two meet later this month.

“This is the biggest (win of my) career so far,” Benavidez said. “I just want to be the best of my era. Whoever they need me to fight next, I want to unify all four titles, so that’s next.”

Stephen Fulton Downs Brandon Figueroa, Wins WBC Belt

In one of the other featured bouts of the night, it was Stephen Fulton besting Brandon Figueroa. Fulton earned a decision and the WBC featherweight title in the process.

Two of the scorecards read 116-112 for Fulton while the third had it 117-111. This was a rematch of a 2021 bout won by Fulton via majority decision with the junior featherweight title being unified that night.

Fulton out-landed his opponent in 11 of the 12 rounds. He also threw more punches in seven of the 12 overall.

Isaac Cruz topped Angel Fierro in another bout as part of the card.
