Unified super middleweight boxing champion Canelo Alvarez once again showcased his skills.
Alvarez earned a one-sided decision over Edgar Berlanga from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Along with dropping his challenger once, Alvarez was never threatened in this one.
The scores were 117-110, 118-109 and 118-109 for the fifth consecutive decision win by Alvarez.
“Now what are they gonna say,” Alvarez said (thanks to ESPN for the quotes). “I fight younger fighters. They say I fight older fighters. They always talk.
“My experience, my talent, my hard work. If you have talent but you don’t have disciplined, you have nothing.”
Alvarez improved to 62-2-2 in his career while dealing Berlanga his first loss in 23 pro bouts.
“I’m upset,” Berlanga said. “I fought a legend. Hopefully this is the start today of me becoming a future legend.
“I took his best shot, I believe, in the third.”
In the co-main event, Erislandy Lara defended his WBA middleweight belt. Lara stopped Danny Garcia when his corner stepped in following the ninth round.
Caleb Plant claimed the interim WBA super middleweight title with a ninth round finish of Trevor McCumby and Rolando Romero topped Manuel James via decision.
The preliminary card included wins by Stephen Fulton, Ricardo Salas Rodriguez, Jonathan Lopez, Yoenli Hernandez, Lawrence King and Bek Nurmaganbet.
