Many know Sydney Sweeney from her work on the hit shot “Euphoria” along with her roles in such films as “Madame Web.”
Now, those in the combat sports world will get to see her on the big screen.
The 27-year-old Sweeney is playing former boxing legend Christy Martin in a biopic.
As someone who is anything but an athlete, Sweeney has definitely been hitting the gym.
Martin competed from 1989-2012 and held the WBC super welterweight title in 2009. She was the first boxer elected to the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame in 2016 and was the first female inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame four years later.
Through 59 career fights, Martin went 49-7 with 31 career knockouts. She also competed for numerous other titles, including a 2003 bout with Laila Ali.
Among those Martin earned wins over include Mia St. John, Dakota Stoney and her first pro win vs. Angela Buchanan.
In 2010, Martin was stabbed several times and shot by her husband, James V. Martin. He was later sentenced to 25 years in prison for the crimes.
