Oscar De La Hoya has joined the trash-on-Canelo-Alvarez express that has been making headlines in recent days.
As Alvarez prepares for his September title fight with Edgar Berlanga, he has faced verbal attacks from many. The list includes UFC CEO Dana White, former champion Conor McGregor, Saudi promoter Turki Alalshikh and now the ex-boxing great.

“So it turns out I’m not the only one that thinks Canelo is an arrogant piece of shit,” De La Hoya said on social media. “Turki Alalshikh recently revealed Canelo refused to meet him in person and isn’t entertaining any deals to be done with him.
“Why? Because he’s out-priced himself. The Saudis don’t even want to deal with him. It’s all because he will do anything not to fight David Benavidez.”
“Turki is trying to make the best fights that everybody wants to see,” De La Hoya said. “Canelo continues to take the fights that nobody wants to see.”
Alvarez is riding a four-fight win streak including three defenses of his super middleweight title. Those have come vs. John Ryder, Jermell Charlo and Jaime Munguia.

Oscar De La Hoya Puts Over UFC In Ripping Alvarez
In his post, De La Hoya actually gave props to the UFC. The promotion will debut at the Las Vegas Sphere opposite the Alvarez fight on the same night.
“This fight (Alvarez vs. Berlanga) will not do well,” he said. “Not only because the matchup is OK, but because they’re going up against the UFC’s debut at the Sphere.
“That’s a spectacle that everyone and their mother has been waiting to see since it opened up.”
