Former unified welterweight boxing world champion Keith Thurman loves making history.
Thurman will do that once again this March when he challenges Tim Tszyu for the WBO super welterweight title. That bout headlines the first PBC Pay-Per-View on Prime Video event.
Set for March 30 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the card also includes Rolando Romero defending his belt against Isaac Cruz and Erislandy Lara putting his gold on the line opposite Michael Zerafa.
But Thurman and Tszyu are the ones everybody is excited to see.
Fighting for the first time since 2022, Thurman looks to secure gold around his waist once more. He last held a major title in 2019, suffering his first career loss to Manny Pacquiao.
Prior to that, Thurman had reeled off 29 wins and a no-contest, besting the likes of Josesito Lopez, Danny Garcia, Shawn Porter and Robert Guerrero.
“It’s been a long time coming. I’m looking forward to continuing my legacy with this fight March 30,” Thurman said. “Once again I get to kick off a major event. This is what boxing is all about. Action. World Class.
“He’s a slow-footed fighter with a Mexican style. I’ll meet him in the middle of the ring. He’s gonna go home crying.
He returned in February 2022 and scored a decision victory over Mario Barrios.
Tszyu, the son of former light welterweight champion Kosta Tszyu, is a perfect 24-0 in his career with 17 wins by knockout. He retained his title in October with a decision over Brian Mendoza.
“They say Tszyu comes from ‘down under’, well I am trying to put you under, mate,” Thurman said. “He might have watched the video on me, but he doesn’t know. He might have signed the contract, but he doesn’t know what he just did. Bitter for you, but sweet for me.
“Every time I step into the ring, I’m living out my American dream. We all know the sacrifices we make, and those sacrifices make us who we are. They’re truly worth it. I’ve done a lot at 147 and I want to do great things at 154 pounds. You put me in the ring, and I’m gonna rise to the top.”
