Jake Paul is a heavy favorite entering his upcoming boxing match with former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. And while most are leaning that way, a certain person close to Paul believes he might be in trouble.
Paul’s girlfriend, Jutta Leerdam, was a recent guest on Paul’s own podcast where she declared her cause for concern involving the bout.
“I think you’re going to win but he’s the competitor that is the most scary to me,” Leerdam said (thanks to MMA Mania for the quotes). “For me, if I look at him, he’s scary, super strong and I’ve seen videos of him. Of course, he’s a little older now but if you’ve ever been able to do that your body remembers it.”
Paul, a 31-year-old with a 10-1 record, is a -275 favorite against the 58-year-old Tyson. The last time “Iron Mike” had an official fight came in 2005, with his last win coming in 2003 over Clifford Etienne.
“He has that power forever,” she said. “But also one thing about Jake is that he’s been doing this for like five years. I think that is worse than being almost 60 and your whole life you’re used to that power, you’ve trained so much that your body will remember that.
“(Tyson’s) had so many years of training. Jake didn’t even train five years ago. He didn’t do anything, he was partying, it’s not even comparable. (Tyson) is 57 but he is strong and his body remembers how to fight.”
Paul vs. Tyson will be competed at heavyweight with two-minute rounds. Both fighters will use 14-ounce gloves for the bout.
